Michel’s Review

Fall is in the air, the leaves are starting to turn, and it’s time to get ready for one of the most celebrated holiday, Halloween.  Five of the most popular authors in the romance genre have teamed up to add another treat for their fans.  The characters from their celebrated series are donning their costumes and delivering a very special trick or treat to the readers.

*****

Tijan has brought back the crew from the Fallen Crest series to celebrate Halloween college style.  What starts out as a fun girls weekend and Halloween party quickly escalates into a terrifying weekend that could completely change the entire direction of the series.  Someone is terrorizing the girls and determined to see them dead.  Can they save themselves before it’s too late or will this series end like a horror movie?

Tijan thoroughly embraced the Halloween Spirit in Fallencrest Nightmare.  This novella is going to give the readers chills!

***

So Much More by J. Daniels takes the readers back to the Alabama Summer series.  All the characters are living their happily ever after and building their lives.  For some it’s more than love and romance, it’s about building their own families.  For others it’s figuring out what to do next now that they have found each other.  The one thing that ties them all together is their friendships and family support.

It was great to revisit all these characters and see how their lives are playing out. Join the Halloween celebration at McGills Pub.

***

Getting Down by Helena Hunting is the follow up novella to Shacking Up and sets up what’s to come in the upcoming book, Hooking Up. Ruby and Amelie are putting together a charitable Halloween Ball that quickly gets out of hand.  Ruby is all for the Halloween fun and can’t wait to get Bane in a sexy Batman costume.  Amelie is trying to get her fiancé,Armstrong, to loosen up and have some fun.  What started out as a fun event quickly takes on a life in itself.  Between the costume malfunctions, interfering future in laws, a sexy gladiator up for auction, and stuffy socialites; this event is one not to miss!

Helena Hunting once again delivers a pure treat for her readers.  I am looking forward to wedding of the century in Hooking Up!

***

Unsafe Haven by Bella Jewel is the follow up of The Watcher.  Readers thought Marlie and Kenai had put the danger and suspense behind them when they opened up the Sanctuary.  The Sanctuary is a refuge for people who have had troubled past.  It’s a place they can go and have moments of peace in their chaotic world.  The Sanctuary has become a success and they are having a fund raising Halloween party to give their members more.

Odd things begin to happen when preparing for the party.  The odd things are an afterthought because they are too busy preparing for the party.  They should of paid attention to all the signs.  Now they are trapped inside the Sanctuary and danger is at every corner.  Someone wants to ruin the Sanctuary and take all it’s members down.

Bella Jewel had me on the edge of my seat.  This was definitely a Halloween trick that turned into the very best reading treat.

***

The Pumpkin Was Stuffed by Tara Sivec is a Halloween celebration readers will not forget. Get ready for the one of the craziest Halloween celebrations documented.  A pregnant woman ready to burst has to deal with more than just planning the perfect costume.  The Holidays are planning a Halloween wedding with all the bells and whistles.  A crazy father determined to win the neighborhood decoration prize, a twisted bridezilla with the most unusual wedding attire, a crazy aunt who is stuffing the trick or treat bags with all the wrong kind of goodies, and clowns everywhere are just the beginning of this fun family nightmare.  What’s a girl to do, disown her family or partake in the craziness?  Halloween has never been crazier!

Run for your life if you see clowns in wedding dresses or embrace the Halloween spirit and sit down and read The Pumpkins Were Stuffed by Tara Sivec!

Rule #1: No hot guys.

It might sound ridiculous. I get it. It kind of is, but college was supposed to be my sanctuary. It was my place to start over. The rumors, the whispers, and the jealousy I endured through high school would all be gone.

No one would know me at college.

Rule #2: No drama.

I’d major in pre-law. I’d make a few loyal friends. Everything would be easy breezy. No one was going to use me or hurt me. I wouldn’t let them.

Rule #3: New year. New place. New me.

Right?

Wrong.

And all because of Shay Coleman.

Football captain and quarterback, he was the big guy on campus. The cocky guy in my political science class with a smirk. I hated him on sight . . .

. . . and he was about to break all my rules.

Excerpt:

I was almost grinning from delight as I shoved open the back door. If I hit him, hey, all was fair in the war we were fighting of who could piss each other off the best.

It didn’t.

He was leaning against the wall, the back of his head resting on the brick, and he looked over to smirk at me. “I want to see your room.”

I thrust my hand out. “I’ll take those notes.”

That smirk just widened. He patted his bag and pushed off from the wall. “They’re in my email. I need to get on a computer.” He patted my arm and moved past me, heading inside. “I can use yours.”

“Hey!” I followed him in.

He was looking up the stairs. “Sabrina said you were on the fourth floor. You saw my place. I want to see yours. It’s only fair.”

He wasn’t waiting for my go-ahead. He was already up and rounding second floor to third. He’d be at my floor before I could get there. “Stop! I am not okay with this.”

He was at the third-floor door. He glanced down with that same goddamn smirk. “Better tell me which room or I’m going to hang out in the hallway.”

“Why are you always smirking? Is it permanently attached to your face?”

“What room, Clarke?” He was at my hallway door.

Fucking hell. I gritted my teeth. “Wait. Just wait. My door automatically locks.”

He’d opened the door but let it shut. Waiting as I covered the last set of stairs, I refused to let him see me panting. I stood there, purposely holding my breath until he narrowed his eyes and cocked his head to the side. “Breathe, Clarke. You’re going to pass out.”

I almost burped out the small pocket of air I’d been holding. “I hate you so much.”

“Yeah, yeah.” He waved that off. “We get it. Eternal damnation in hell, the whole shebang. Whatever.” He nodded to the door. “Stop stalling. I want to see your room.”

I was picturing pitchforks and fire. Maybe that was the burning smell he mentioned. It was hell, and all the fire in there. I yanked the door, glaring as I did. “Was this Sabrina’s idea?”

“Nope. All mine.” He was right behind me. I could feel his breathing. “She refused to tell me your room number, said I had to call.”

My eyes widened at the thought of him coming up by himself, strolling down the hallway, and then knocking on my door. Good Lordy gracious. Too many would’ve seen him at my door. I would’ve been the talk of the dorm.

I shuddered, unlocked, and entered my room.

Michel’s Review

The timing for the release of Hate To Love You by Tijan is perfect with all the college students heading back to campus to start another new year.  Whether they are freshman or upper classmen, they are embarking on another exciting year that will become part of their life journey.

Kennedy Clarke is starting her freshman year at Dulane University.  She is starting school with very high expectations and well thought out strategic list to ensure her success in college.  Her list is very specific and outlined in direct detail.  Her reasonings are valid after her negative experiences in high school.  She is a girl with goals that she intends to keep.

First on the list is NO HOT GUYS.  A bit unrealistic considering the campus is full of them, which includes her older brother Gage. The difference is that she can choose not to engage with the enemy.  It seems doable until she gets to her Political Science class and is forced into group participation.  That includes participation with the star quarterback Shay Coleman, who is not the typical jock. She can handle the jock but she can’t handle the man behind the title.  The only thing she can do is become his secret friend. Because if people knew they were friends it would break rule number two.

Rule number two- NO DRAMA.  Completely unrealistic when in an all girls dorm and three girls who are determined to be her friend.  Two of these girls are determined to get the complete “college experience” which includes frat parties, football games, and late night pizza binges followed by ice cream induced comas.  These girls are bent on bringing rule number one into play.  And she’s still trying to keep her growing friendship with the star quarterback and her hotter than sin brother under wraps.  When the unthinkable happens, rule number one is once again broken.  They may need certain hot guys to help them against the other hot guys who were the reason this rule was put into place.

Rule number three – NEW YEAR. NEW PLACE. NEW ME.  This rule was completely workable and did work but it just didn’t work the way Kennedy imagined it would.

It all began in Political Science class and became a college experience Kennedy never imagined she would have.  The hot guy proved her theories wrong.  The drama in the new year and new place led her to the new me, a girl who became stronger, more determined, and with much more realistic goals.  Kennedy not only changed her major, she changed her life.

Tijan captured the “college experience” and so much more.  She gave all the characters a lifetime experience that was more educating than the lectures and textbooks could.  I hope there will be more from the gang at Dulane University.

He was the leader of the mafia. I was about to fall in love with him, and his name…Cole Mauricio.

Cole

By Tijan

Buy: Amazon US / Amazon UK / B & N / IBooks Kobo

Synopsis:

I shouldn’t have remembered him.

He was just a guy who walked through a restaurant. I didn’t know his name. We never made eye contact. There was no connection between us at all.

But I could feel him.

The tingle down my spine. The command in his presence. The snap of tension in the air around him. That was the first time I saw him, and I was captivated.

The second time was different.

He was in the mysterious back elevator of my apartment building. Our eyes met for a fleeting second before the doors closed, and I was staggered. My breath was robbed. My senses on high alert. My body hummed.

That was just the beginning.

He was the leader of the mafia. I was about to fall in love with him, and his name…

Cole Mauricio

Excerpt

Once inside the elevator, I stood to one side, watching him. He returned my gaze.

We still did not touch.

My chest tightened, hoping no one would call the elevator at that moment. We sailed past the lobby, the second floor, and stopped at mine. I put in the code, and the doors opened to my home.

I drew in a breath, filling my lungs again. God, it was time.

Stepping out with shaky knees, I bypassed the light switch. The full moon lit up my entire floor. I went to the kitchen and paused at the island. “Did you want something to drink?” I caught sight of the tequila and wine on the counter. There was more than enough.

Cole stepped up behind me and followed my gaze. “Were you going to have a party?” he asked, his breath coating the back of my neck.

I shivered, closing my eyes for one delicious moment. “I stocked up. I thought a friend was coming over tonight.”

His hand rested on my back, nudging my sweater aside to touch my skin. “He?”

“She. Sia.” I looked over my shoulder. He was so close. “She stood me up for a date.”

A faint smile showed. “I need to send her a thank-you card.”

“Please don’t sign it.”

“Why not?”

I turned around, easing my back against the island. Cole placed his hands on either side of me, trapping me in place.

“Because she’s slightly obsessed with you, though she’s in love with someone else now. She could circle back,” I joked.

“Me?”

“We saw you one night.”

“When?” He leaned away, but his hands remained on the counter. It was like he was giving me breathing space on purpose.

“At Gianni’s. We went there the night I moved in.”

He didn’t move, but I could feel him pulling away. A protest started in my head, but I bit back the words. He didn’t reply. He was waiting for me instead.

I continued, “You came in with a bunch of men and went upstairs. That was it.”

His eyes narrowed. “Did you talk to anyone?”

“What do you mean?”

“The staff?”

“About you?”

“About anything.”

My forehead wrinkled. “Sia networked with the hostess. They exchanged cards. Sia said the girl was a model. She recognized her from the Gala. That was it. Oh, well, another server sat with us for a drink later on. But they mostly talked with Sia about the Gala and about photographers—stuff like that.”

He relaxed, his hands loosening their hold on the counter. I was scared to ask what he was so worried they’d told us.

“I don’t know who you are.” I lifted a hand, placing it on his chest. His heart was racing, just like mine. My mouth parted in surprise. “If that’s what you’re worried about.”

He glanced down at my hand and held still. He was thinking something over. I held my tongue, worried it was me, that he was second-guessing this night for us. I wanted to tell him there was nothing to worry about, but it sounded ridiculous. I really had no idea. So I waited it out, my heart pressing against my rib cage.

When he looked back up, the hunger was in his eyes again—dark, primal, and more evident than ever. He took my hand and leaned in, closing the distance between us. With his other hand, he cupped the side of my face. “I wasn’t second-guessing this. I want you to know that.” His touch was tender.

“What were you thinking about?”

“Something else, but it wasn’t you.”

“This is one of those moments where you wish you could tell me, but you can’t? Not yet?”

The corner of his mouth lifted. His eyes moved from mine to my lips. “Something like that, yes.”

“Mmmm-hmmm,” I started to tease, but then his head dipped down, and his lips were on mine.

I gasped. The pleasure was immediate. His mouth was gentle, but as he felt my body’s reaction, he applied pressure. His touch grew more demanding, then I was kissing him back. I wanted more. Someone groaned. That was me.

His hand slid around to the back of my neck. He held me in his grip as his mouth explored mine, opening over me and slipping inside. My hands grasped his shoulders, just holding on. All I could focus on was his tongue. I met his with mine and reveled in the sensation. But it wasn’t enough. Need shot through my whole body.

My hands slid under his shirt and moved over his back and shoulders. His body was just as powerful as his presence. I felt the shift of his muscles. They trembled under my hands. The feeling was intoxicating. I had power over him, and I wanted more. I wanted to see how much power I actually had.

Pulling back, I studied him.

He was panting lightly. So was I.

I could see him wondering what I was going to do, so I reached back to the counter and started to lift myself. His hands caught the backs of my thighs, and he lifted me the rest of the way. Now sitting on the edge of the island, my legs parted, and he was back between them. His mouth went right to mine.

I couldn’t get over what I was doing. I didn’t care.

I didn’t think I would care the next day, the day after, or however long this lasted. I had no clue. I only knew I had one night. One long night.

Michel’s Review

For fans of Mafia romances, Cole by Tijan is the next read to put on your list.  It has everything the reader wants this type of book.  Intrigue, mystery, a bit of darkness, and sizzling hot chemistry between the characters.

For the past year Addison Bowman has been living in a world of grief after witnessing her husband Liam get run down by a drunk driver.  She has been unable to move on and get her life started again.  She’s going through the motions but not really living her life.  After a suggestion by her best friend to move out of the house she shared with her husband to a luxury apartment in the Maucurio Building.  This move is exactly what she needed to kickstart her life once again.  When she meets Cole Mauricio, the owner of the building, her life is about to change once again.

Cole Mauricurio is the only surviving member and head of the Mauricio family.  He’s highly guarded and protected by his men.  He keeps his secrets well hidden and guarded.  When he meets Addison, he didn’t expect the attraction to go beyond the physical sense.

As their relationship begins to become deeper, Cole’s secret and connection to Addison’s past could destroy it all.  He would do anything to protect her.  Even if it means losing her. Once Addison finds out the truth about his real identity and connections, she will have to choose what comes next in her life.  Is she willing to continue feeling alive or will she walk away from the new life she has started?

Tijan once again delivered an enthralling mafia romance that kept me on the edge of my seat.  The twist and turns lead the reader down a road of intrigue and the unexpected.  There was also a cameo appearance by Carter Reed that validates the direction of this story.  I loved the characters but felt like I needed more information about who Cole Mauricio really was.  I would of liked to have experienced more from his POV.  Overall it was a really good book and I would highly recommend it.

“Why’d you push me earlier?”“It’s not important.”

But it was. She felt it in her chest. It was so important, and she needed him to say it again. She was salivating for the chance. She wanted to reassure him, and this time she felt it in her heart. She knew she wasn’t going anywhere. She wanted him to see it in her eyes, that she meant every single word.

She whispered now, “Ask me. Ask me again.”

His eyes met hers, narrowing slightly. He was looking into her, reading her.

She was letting him. There was no wall, no hesitation this time. She wanted him to know her, not just her body. All of her. A second passed. He was still searching in her. Another second. More. He waited a full thirty before asking, his voice so soft and tender, “What would you do if you found out another person cared about you? If you mattered to one more person?”

“Nothing.” She was trying to convey her feelings through her eyes. She wanted him to know so badly. “I wouldn’t run. I wouldn’t walk. I wouldn’t hide. I’d do nothing except stand and embrace it.”

His eyes darkened, an emotion passed in them, one that had her heart beating so fast again. “Yeah?” He let go of her hand, but touched the side of her face. He held her in the palm of his hand, and his thumb rubbed over her cheek. It was like he was smoothing away any lingering worries she might have. “What if I was that person?”

She leaned toward him, her eyes going from his lips back to his gaze. Both were pulling her in, making her yearn for more. “Then I’d say, I feel the same.” Her breath held in her throat. They were talking in code, but it was out now. She was telling him how she felt, and a second later, his lips were on hers.

This. She turned, wound her arms around his neck. This was everything.
